Trail Report

NOTE: There are two 1.3 mile sections of plowed roads on Trail 17 because of logging operations.  These sections are highlighted in yellow on the map to the right.

(Click on the map for a larger view.)

Logging trucks and skidders have the right of way.

Please reduce your speed and yield to all logging equipment.

2/3/12 - Trail 17 was groomed with utility sleds and drags by Bob and Louise Stickney.  For the most part, the trail is in decent shape except for quite a few water bars where riders will have to go slow to get through them.  They also groomed two miles of Trail 12 (the stretch from the south end of trail 17 to Concord Pond.)  This section of trail has 45 deep water bars due to work that was done on the road last summer.  The water bars are passable, but riders will have to go VERY SLOWLY to get through them.

2/2/12

High School Trail - groomed by Bob & Louise Stickney.  This trail is in

good condition with just a few exposed rocks.

ITS 82 from the High School Trail to the intersection of Trail 12,

Groomed by Bob & Louise.  Except for a few rocky spots, this section of ITS 82 is in good shape.

Trail 12 from ITS 82 to Rumford Point - groomed by Dan Stearns, Bob Milligan, Carroll York, and Bob & Louise Stickney.

A few spots have thin snow cover, but overall the trail condition is good.

Hanover Trail - groomed by Bob M., Carroll, Bob S., & Louise.  This

trail is in excellent condition all the way to Gordy Howe's store.

It was a grooming convoy with the two Bobs, Carroll,

& Louise smoothing the beautiful Hanover Trail

2/1/12 - Tom Reed and Gene Knox groomed, with the Tucker and drag for the first time, all of ITS 82, the Black Mtn. Trail to the warming hut, and the Swain Pond Trail to the plowed road.  They filled the washout between Black Mtn. and Whitecap with more snow and it is now easily passable.  They were also able to fill in all the bad holes on the Swain Pond Trail.  Trail conditions are much improved and are pretty good, considering the general lack of snow.  We can't do much more until we get more snow!

1/31/12 - The Black Mountain Trail was groomed by Gene Knox with a utility sled and drag.  He reported that the trail was in good shape.

1/29/12 - The Logan trail and the Phillips Trail were groomed by John Blais. He made three passes on each. John reports that these trails are fairly good, but we need another six inches of snow to make them really good.
1/28/12 - Swain Pond Trail was groomed (twice) by Ron Russell.
1/27/12 - Trail 12 from Concord Pond to Rumford Point was packed with the Tucker by Bob and Louise Stickney.  We have a good base, but there are many water bars that need to be filled in.  Another decent storm should give us enough snow to fill the water bars.

Please remember that all grooming and trail maintenance is done by volunteers!  When you see these volunteers working on the trails, a "thumbs up" sign will let them know that they are being appreciated for their efforts. Please preserve the trails by treading lightly and yield to all groomers, day and night. Your patience and cooperation are appreciated!
